Trail Study

We are getting ready for our annual trip to Garner State park.  I have a new outdoor painting rig that will allow me to be more mobile within the park.  Find more interesting places to paint.  I did this little study from photographs in my studio, but on my new outdoor easel.  So it was an outdoor inside painting

Trail Study 2013

Walking along the old trails through the Texas hill country is a great way to spend a cool fall day.  It is peaceful and quiet, unlike the city where we live.  This is really God's country.

Lost Maples 2013

 

I have to admit it I love this part of Texas and these parks in particular.  I have been to this area since I was a kid.  And I continue to this day.  This trail is through Lost Maples State park. Beautiful always, especially in the fall!

Taos Mountain

A few years ago I was out in one of my most favorite places on earth Santa Fe painting with a group of artists.  I left the group at the end of the day and drove around until the sun began to set.  I came upon this lovely little casita in the middle of no where with a beautiful view of the Taos Mountain.  It was such a cozy isolation.

Distinguished Guest

I have a plaster cast of a gorilla I won at an amusement park when I was a kid.  I keep it in my studio to sketch just for fun.  The other night I ended up with this and was surprised at how human he looked. Sort of a distinguished guest.

Hippo Love

I am off on an animal jag for some reason.  These two love birds I saw at the Houston zoo many years ago. I've been carrying around the photo for a long time waiting to be moved to paint it someday.  These animals are so tranquil, but they are huge! This image is a pastel 8 x 10" on Ampersand Pastelbord.

Three Legged Cat

I have had the image of this cat walking across the driveway for years. I have intended to render it in pastel or oil for a long time.  I don't know why exactly I just love the way the shadow looks so graphic against the bland concrete.  Once I finished it, needing a title, I thought about our new daughter-in-law, Jackie  who just lost her rescued, three legged cat.  Her cat looks nothing like this one however.  This also goes out to another animal lover Lynn in Arkansas...
